Day 1: Calgary
Arrive in Calgary today, pick up your rental car and head to your hotel for an evening at leisure after a long international flight. Overnight at Calgary. Day 2: Calgary – Lake Louise Start your grand Canadian Rockies self-drive holiday today by driving to Lake Louise amidst stunning mountain landscapes, stopping along the way as you please for photo opportunities or just to breathe in and experience the pure surroundings. Rub your eyes in disbelief when you see Lake Louise’s stunning sapphire-blue colour and the towering snow-peaked mountains surrounding it. Stay at the Fairmont Lake Louise, which has the most enviable lakeside location so that you can bask in nature’s glory at length. Also, take the Lake Louise Gondola for alpine views from the top and a chance to spot grizzly bears. Overnight at Lake Louise. Day 3: Lake Louise If you thought lakes couldn’t get any more beautiful than Lake Louise, think again! Today you can drive to the nearby Moraine Lake, which has possibly an even more unbelievably stunning peacock-blue colour and where you can kayak peacefully to really experience the lake’s beauty and the surrounding snow-peaked mountains at leisure. Overnight at Lake Louise. Day 4: Lake Louise – Jasper Head to Jasper today on the iconic Icefields Parkway road amidst mind-blowing mountain landscapes. Mid-way along the drive, stop at the Columbia Icefield Centre and embark on the thrilling Ice Explorer tour, in which specially-adapted Snocoaches take you right onto the vast Athabasca Glacier and even let you step onto the snow! Overnight at Jasper. Day 5: Jasper Take a scenic tour of Jasper, heading across Athabasca River to Maligne Canyon. Then, visit the beautiful Medicine Lake viewpoint. Finally, take a 1.5 hour cruise across the famous Maligne Lake for unobstructed views of the magnificent shoreline, eventually reaching the picture-perfect Spirit Island. During the tour, keep your eyes peeled for Jasper’s wildlife including including bears, caribou, wolves, and bighorn sheep. Overnight at Jasper. Day 6: Jasper Head out on the Jasper Tramway to enjoy the beautiful views of the alpine tundra from 8,088 feet. Day 7: Jasper – Banff It’s a long but spectacular drive back to Banff today, so take your time and enjoy the journey through the Rockies. Later, once you are back, possibly head to Upper Hot Springs Pool for a pleasurable and relaxing soak in the natural hot mineral waters. Overnight at Banff. Day 8: Banff Visit the top of Sulphur Mountain on the Banff Gondola for glorious views of the Canadian Rockies. Enjoy the views especially from the spectacular Banff Skywalk at the top. Another must-do activity is hiking in the Rockies to really get up-close to the spectacular and pure nature all around. One great option is to take the shuttle bus to Sunshine Meadows for unforgettable alpine hikes amidst vividly coloured wildflowers. Simple guided day hikes can also be arranged to places such as Yoho Valley and Takkakkaw Falls, Larch Valley, Stanley Glacier and many more locations. Overnight at Banff. Day 9: Banff Indulge in more outdoor pursuits such as adrenalin-pumping white-water rafting on the pristine Kicking Horse River with varying levels of difficulty as per one’s preference, ranging from Grade 2 & 3 rapids to more challenging Grade 4 rapids. In the evening, get a panoramic view of Vancouver from the Observation deck at Harbour Centre and later, explore Vancouver’s nightlife, including its artisanal distilleries as well as fine restaurants.
